Police have released the full story on Deonte Bell, a burglary suspect who drove the wrong way down I-680 while fleeing police.

DANVILLE, CA — Danville police have released more information on a wrong-way collision that closed down the I-680 on-ramp for about two hours Monday afternoon.

At around 3:28 p.m., the Danville Police Department was alerted through an Automated License Plate Reader to a Honda that was associated with retail theft in Danville, according to a department statement. Officers found the Honda heading toward I-680 on Diablo Road, and identified the driver as 23-year-old Deonte Bell of Sacramento. Police say Bell had an outstanding arrest warrant for a previous theft from the BevMo in Danville.

A Danville officer attempted a traffic stop on I-680 near Diablo Road, but Bell did not stop. He took the Sycamore Valley off-ramp before driving north along southbound I-680. For safety reasons, officers did not follow him.
