In fall of 2019, the City converted from an at-large election system for its City Council elections to a by-district system and district boundaries must now be reviewed and adjusted based on 2020 census data. In the district election system, the City is divided into separate geographic districts. The City has five districts. Each council member is elected by the registered voters of the particular district in which the council member resides. Voters do not vote for candidates outside their districts. Redistricting ensures that each city council member represents approximately the same number of constituents.
