The City of Davis is looking for volunteers to serve as members of the following commissions:
- Bicycle Advisory (3 vacancies)
- Business & Economic Development (1 vacancy)
- Civic Arts (2 vacancies)
- Historical Resources Management (1 – 2 vacancies)
- Human Relations (1 vacancy)
- Natural Resources (2 vacancies)
- Personnel Board (1 vacancy)

- Safety and Parking Advisory (2 - 3 vacancies)
- Social Services (1 vacancy)
- Tree (1 – 2 vacancies)
By serving on a city commission, you can participate in local government and help plan the future of Davis. Commissions serve as a conduit for citizen input – a way of gathering, analyzing and recommending options to the City Council. Commissions provide an important avenue for determining the community’s feelings about various issues and extending the reach of the democratic process.
If you are interested in serving on a commission and are a resident of Davis, please fill out an application. Applications may be picked up at the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, 23 Russell Boulevard, Suite 4, Monday through Friday 8 – 5 p.m., downloaded here.

You can also call 757-5648 and an application will be mailed or emailed to you. Feel free to include a resume or other information to help the City Council in the selection process.
Please be aware that all applications and accompanied documents are considered public information and may be disclosed/released pursuant to the California Public Records Act. Applications are submitted to City Council for appointment at a regular Council meeting; appointments are tentatively scheduled for October 18, 2011.

Application deadlines are established to allow City Council time to review the applications thoroughly. Late applications may not be submitted to City Council.
BICYCLE ADVISORY COMMISSION
The Bicycle Advisory Commission works to develop options to achieve the goals of the city’s Comprehensive Bicycle Plan, and to recommend changes to the plan, as necessary, to achieve its purposes. Meets the first Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m., Community Chambers, 23 Russell Boulevard.
BUSINESS AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
The Business and Economic Development Commission advises the City Council on matters relating to business and economic development; serves as a focal point for the community and City Government on business and economic development projects and issues. Meets the fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m., Davis Joint Unified School District Conference Room, 526 B Street
CIVIC ARTS COMMISSION
The Davis Civic Arts Commission advises the City Council on all maters relating to cultural arts. Meets the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m., Community Chambers Conference Room, 23 Russell Boulevard.
HISTORICAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT COMMISSION
The Historical Resources Management Commission advises City Council on matters pertaining to historical resources, maintains an inventory of historical resources, recommends the designation of historical resources and reviews applications for alteration permits for historical structures. In order for the Commission to comply with Certified Local Government Guidelines, the Commission is recruiting applicants with special interest, competence, experience or knowledge in historic preservation and the cultural heritage of Davis and professional qualifications in such fields as the following: architecture, history, architectural history, prehistoric and historic archeology, urban planning, law, real estate, folklore, museum curation, conservation, landscape architecture, American studies and cultural geography. Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m., Hattie Weber Museum, 445 C Street.
HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION
The Human Relations Commission seeks to build a community where relationships among diverse peoples are valued by all; discrimination and hate are not tolerated; the voices of the voiceless are heard; and citizens can address issues dealing with hatred, discrimination and alienation through education, outreach, studies and recommendations to the City Council. Meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m., Community Chambers, 23 Russell Boulevard.
NATURAL RESOURCES COMMISSION
The Natural Resources Commission advises the City Council on the preservation, management and enhancement of the city’s natural resources. Meets the fourth Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m., Community Chambers, 23 Russell Boulevard.
PERSONNEL BOARD
The Personnel Board hears appeals submitted by any city employee involving disciplinary action such as dismissal, demotion, interpretation or alleged violation of the city’s Personnel Rules. The board, when requested by the City Manager or City Council, investigates and makes recommendations on any matter of personnel policy. Meets on an as needed basis at times and locations to be arranged
PLANNING COMMISSION
The Planning Commission is the city planning agency authorized by state statutes. The Commission reviews and makes recommendations relative to all land use decisions including, but not limited to, the General Plan and Specific Plan amendments, variances, conditional use permits, planned developments, tentative maps, rezoning and annexations. Meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m., Community Chambers, 23 Russell Boulevard.
SAFETY AND PARKING ADVISORY COMMISSION
The Safety and Parking Advisory Commission advises the City Council on ways to improve existing accident prevention programs or implement new programs in order to reduce untimely deaths, crippling injuries and economic loses caused by accidents, and reviews and make recommendations on traffic safety proposals and parking issues. Meets the first Thursday of each month at 5:00 p.m., Community Chambers, 23 Russell Boulevard.
SOCIAL SERVICES COMMISSION
The Social Services Commission advises the City Council on matters relating to issues of social services including health, affordable housing, homelessness, hunger, transit and low income needs. Meets the third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m., Community Chambers, 23 Russell Boulevard.
TREE COMMISSION
The Tree Commission acts in an advisory capacity on tree related matters, including review and approval of tree removal requests. Meets the third Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m., Davis Police Department, 2600 Fifth Street.
