City Looks to Save $40K in Trashcan Liners, Labor Costs

"This action will not only greatly reduce labor costs to remove trash, but will save money on the trash liners placed in each of these cans on a weekly basis," a release said.

Recently passed are beginning to manifest themselves.

The city is hoping to save about $40,000 per year by removing some trashcans in parks and greenbelt areas, according to a city release. The savings will come in the form of reduced labor along with fewer needed trash liners, which get replaced on a weekly basis.

The release doesn’t say exactly how many trashcans are being removed, and a spokesperson for Community Services was not available as for Friday morning.

Residents can support cost saving efforts with simple actions such as using reusable water bottles, placing recyclables in the proper receptacles and taking waste home instead of leaving it in the parks and greenbelts.
