Common Grounds Coffee Plans to Reopen in Early September
Common Grounds was originally going to lose its lease while a Starbucks moved in next door. The Starbucks will no longer be coming to the Cowell Boulevard center, and Common Grounds plans to reopen.

The Davis coffee shop that was briefly slated to be replaced by a Starbucks says it will reopen in the first or second week of September.
Common Grounds, which lost its lease in south Davis in May, was originally going to be replaced by a pet shop while a Starbucks went in next door. Davis residents responded loudly and the Starbucks deal apparently vanished. Common Grounds made plans to move next door, where the Starbucks would have gone.
"The construction/remodel/rebirth has begun," the coffee shop said Wednesday on its Facebook page. "All the paper stuff and permits were taken care of and the city of Davis was great to work with. We anticipate a new opening around the 1st or 2nd week of September."
The old Common Grounds location was 2171 Cowell Blvd. A Pet Food Express is still slated to fill that storefront.
