World Series: UCD Alum Daniel Descalso's Stats (VIDEO)

The St. Louis Cardinals infielder says a tortoise has had more to do with the team's success than a squirrel.

Watch the video above to see why St. Louis Cardinal's infielder Daniel Descalso credits a tortoise for the team's success, rather than a squirrel.

Game 1 (Cardinals Win)

  • Came in as a pinch hitter, at which point Tim McCarver (the announcer) mispronounced his last name. He then layed down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move a runner from 1st to 2nd base. 

Game 2 (Rangers Win) 

  • Filled in at 3rd base late in the game. McCarver said this when Descalso came up to bad, implying that he wouldn't be a very difficult out: "If he was that good of a hitter, he'd have started tonight." Descalso didn't defend his name this time, grounding out and going hitless. 
  • Perhaps he'll get a chance to make McCarver eat his words in Game 3 on Saturday.

Entered in the 8th as a pinch runner. Scored on an extra-base hit. 

Game 6 (Wednesday)

  • Descalso beat out a throw for an infield single to extend the 8th inning. 
  • Lead-off hit in the 10th inning and a run scored.
