Davis Man Arrested for Hate Crime in Russian Store Clerk Beating
Peter Lloyd Zuniga, 25, may have beat the 45-year-old woman because of her Russian heritage, according to police.
The Davis Police Department released the following statement Saturday afternoon. Like Davis Patch on Facebook for more crime news.
At approximately 7:40 AM, officers responded to Quick Shop Market located at 1964 East 8th Street in Davis. A male suspect (later identified as Peter Lloyd Zuniga/ a 25 year old Davis resident) entered the store and asked for matches.
When the clerk told him she did not have matches, the suspect stole two lighters and walked out of the business. The suspect returned approximately 10 minutes later and attacked the female clerk; beating her and kicking her several times in the head while she was on the ground. The clerk (a 45 year old Davis resident) was transported to Sutter Davis Hospital for treatment and suffered a broken nose in addition to other minor injuries.

The suspect was subsequently apprehended on Full Circle in the Rancho Yolo neighborhood. The investigation subsequently revealed the suspect may have been motivated to beat the victim because of her Russian heritage.
The suspect has been lodged at the Yolo County Jail for Robbery, Felony Assault and committing a hate crime. While in custody Zuniga made threats to kill specific officers of the Davis Police Department and was also charged with threatening public officials. His bail has been set at 180,000.00 dollars.
