The Davis Police Department’s current strategic plan will expire in December.

They’ll be holding three meetings with the public during October to hear the community’s wants and needs as the new plan is developed. Although the meetings will be organized geographically by police beat, anybody can attend any meeting.

“[We’re] hoping for a large public turnout and strong community involvement so that we can create a new strategic plan that is responsive to community needs,” the department said in a release today.

Here is the full press release:

The Davis Police Department is in the initial stages of creating a new strategic plan for upcoming years 2012 through 2014. The current 3-year strategic plan ends December 31, 2011. As done in the past, the police department is asking for public involvement in creating a new plan.

The strategic plan is created after receiving input from community members, including UC Davis students, police employees, and other community stakeholders and is used to help the Department continuously focus its policing efforts.

The police department will host three community meetings during the month of October. At each meeting, the Department will present information about the current plan, and outcomes, as well as ask for information which will be used to create the new plan.

The first meeting, for police beats 1 and 2, will be scheduled for October 5, 2011 at 6 pm at Willett Elementary School; 1207 Sycamore Ln. This meeting will be for those community members located west of Poleline Rd. in addition to those community members residing north of Covell Blvd. between F St. and Highway 113 (please refer to Beat 1 and 2 on the map below).

The second meeting, for police Beats 3 and 4, will take place on October 12, 2011 at 6 pm in the gym of Harper Elementary School; 4000 E. Covell Blvd. This meeting will be for community members residing east of Poleline Rd., those residing north of Covell Blvd. between Poleline Rd. and the Mace Curve, and South Davis (please refer to Beat 3 and 4 to the map below).

The final meeting will occur on October 26, 2011 for UCD students.  The location for this meeting has yet to be determined.

Although the community meetings are broken down by geographic area, anyone may attend any of the public meetings. The Department is hoping for a large public turnout and strong community involvement so that we can create a new strategic plan that is responsive to community needs.
