Davis Strangling Murder Suspect in Court Today
Davis Resident James Elron Mings is a suspect in the strangling murder of Kevin Gerard Seery.

James Elron Mings, 36, has a trail-setting conference today at the Yolo County Court. He has been held without bail since Kevin Gerard Seery, 42, was found strangled to death in his home at the in early October.
Mings pleaded not guilty at a hearing on October 6.
He was one of two people to call authorities for medical help. We don’t have details beyond that, except that the determined him to be a suspect after speaking with him.

We reported shortly after the murder that Mings was a . He alludes often to a troubled past, but focuses most heavily on love and a brighter future.
The murder at the happened shortly after new students arrived and started the quarter. They announced on their Facebook page that police would host a meeting at the complex so that any residents could ask questions.

I asked College Square about the meeting in a phone call. They issued a written response:

This was a very unfortunate occurrence; we do not have full details and are waiting on additional information in regards to the incident. In the meantime, we are taking all appropriate measures to ensure the safety of our residents and staff.
