POLL: Should Davis Ban Plastic Bags? How About Paper?

A plastic bag ban will soon come before the city council, thanks to the National Resources Commission. This comes in the wake of the zero-waste resolution passed by the council in December.

The city probably spends more than $200,000 a year on cleanup and removal of the bags, according to the Davis Enterprise. The ban, which could cut plastic bag use in town by 90 percent, would only apply to large retailers that make more than $1 million in gross sales, like , , , and others.

The ordinance would also add a 10 cent charge to all paper bags at large retailers, says the Enterprise. This goal would be to promote the use of reusable cloth bags. Plastic bags are not used at the .
