Will You Host a Neighborhood Party During Davis Neighbors' Night Out?
The eighth-annual Davis Neighbors' Night Out is set for Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013.

Davis residents are encouraged to host block parties and neighborhood get-togethers this fall during the eighth-annual Davis Neighbors' Night Out.
"The event was initiated to encourage neighbors to get to know one another," the city said in a press release announcing the event. "Many participants have stated they have lived in their neighborhood for years and continue to meet new people at each event."
The event is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 13, the day after UC Davis' homecoming football game against Montana State, and is sponsored by the city, the university and Associated Students of UC Davis.
The city hopes the event will encourage safe neighborhoods with residents who look out for one another, and start the academic year with a festive event to "reduce the potential for misunderstandings or conflicts by opening lines of communication among all residents."
Officials are asking residents to host afternoon and early-evening parties like potluck dinners.
"The City assists with planning tasks including sending out invitations and providing party reminder door hangers," the press release states.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly listed the date of UC Davis' homecoming football game. The game is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12. Patch regrets the error.
