Update: Woman Dies After Being Hit by Truck on Russell

The fog was extremely thick when Megan Glanville was hit Wednesday morning.

Update: Megan Glanville was pronounced dead at UC Davis Medical Center Thursday.

"After a long fight to save her life, Megan Glanville succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff late this morning," said Lt. Paul Doroshov Thursday.

Original Story: A truck traveling east on Russell Boulevard struck a pedestrian Wednesday morning. The fog was extremely thick at the time.

The woman, Megan Glanville, suffered serious head injuries. The driver of the Ford pickup was 61-year-old George Souza of Woodland. Police don't belive drugs or alcohol played into the accident, which took place at 6:40 a.m., while it was very foggy.

The woman was taken to the UC Davis Medical Center, according to police.

Police Department Statement

On December 21, 2011 Davis Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Russell and Lake Boulevard for a traffic collision. Officers determined that 61 year old George Souza (a Woodland resident) was driving his Ford Pickup eastbound on Russell Boulevard. 25 year old Megan Glanville (From Chico, but currently living in Davis) was crossing Russell Boulevard as a pedestrian where Russell intersects Lake Boulevard.  As Megan Glanville crossed Russell, she was hit by the pickup truck driven by Souza.

Megan Glanville suffered severe injuries including head trauma. She was rushed, by ambulance, to the UCD Medical Center in Sacramento. Megan Glanville is being treated for her injuries at the UCD Medical Center, and her current condition is listed as critical.

Davis Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding this collision. While investigators do not believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor in this incident, they suspect the heavy morning fog played a role.
