Yolo: Get a Free Oil Filter in Davis Saturday. Your Old One Will be Recycled.

On June 23, residents will receive a free oil filter when they bring in their used one to recycle at any O'Reilly Auto Parts and AutoZone stores in Davis, West Sacramento or Woodland.

The Yolo County Department of Planning & Public Works, Division of Integrated Waste Management and the cities of Davis, Woodland and West Sacramento, in collaboration with O’Reilly Auto Parts and AutoZone stores, have partnered to offer a used oil filter exchange event for Yolo County residents on Saturday, June 23.

This special event is being held to help educate Yolo County residents about the need to recycle used oil filters.  Do-it-yourself oil changers in California currently purchase more than 20 million oil filters annually.  Unfortunately, less than 10% of used oil filters are recycled or even disposed of properly.  This means that an estimated 1.2 million gallons of oil in discarded oil filters go to landfills each year.  The hope is that do-it-yourself oil changers become more motivated to recycle the used oil filters once they become aware that used filters and the oil they contain are made into new products such as construction rebar and re-refined oil.
