City Of Del Mar: Family Fun On Saturday To Fundraise For Del Mar's Tot Lot

Friends of the Powerhouse are hosting a Family Fun Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, to raise funds to replace the beloved tot lot at Powerhouse Park.

The fun includes music from Hullabaloo, storytelling by Sandcastle Tales, arts and crafts and raffle prizes.

Viewpoint Brewing Co. is hosting a beer garden. Del Mar Pizza is supplying slices.

For the new playground, community fundraising is targeted at $100,000. The City of Del Mar has secured $180,000 in state grant funds for the project, and is contributing $45,000 in City funds plus staff time.

After 18 years, the elements and wear and tear from thousands of children have taken their toll on the tot lot overlooking 15th Street beach.

Plans call for replacing all equipment, and new rubberized play surfacing and swing sets. The project will also includes a new drainage system and vegetation pruning to improve views. Hardscape, donor bricks, landscaping and the existing shade structure will remain as they are.
