On February 11, 2022, at about 4:30 p.m., Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the 11100 block of Moreno Avenue in Lakeside. When deputies arrived, they found an adult male who had been shot. Two uninvolved citizens were providing lifesaving measures to the man. Deputies relieved the citizens until fire department personnel arrived. The man was transported to a local area hospital by ambulance. Unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving.

Sheriff's Homicide detectives continued their investigation throughout the night and identified the deceased male as thirty-two-year-old Derek Maurice Edwards. Derek's family was notified of his death.
Detectives identified twenty-seven-year-old Bryan Luther Edwards as the suspect who shot Derek. Derek and Bryan are brothers and live at the same property on Moreno Avenue. Bryan was stabbed in the altercation with Derek and was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.
Detectives arrested Bryan at the hospital for one count of 187(a) PC – Murder. Bryan will remain at the hospital under guard until he is medically cleared to be booked into jail.
The 11100 block of Moreno Avenue is currently closed. We anticipate reopening the roadway by noon.
