On February 18, 2022 just after 12:00 p.m., a subject on the Coaster Train became disruptive, yelling profanities at other passengers and their children. Train staff attempted to calm the subject down, but when approached, placed his hand on the grip of a handgun concealed in his waistband. Train staff retreated immediately and began evacuating the train at the Solana Beach Station.

Deputies from the Sheriff's North Coastal Station and Transit Enforcement Unit responded to the scene. The subject was contacted inside the train and was safely detained. Upon examination by deputies, the handgun was found to be an airsoft replica. The subject was identified as 27-year-old Qaahir Baylor of San Diego. Baylor was arrested on criminal threat charges. Train operations resumed at 1:00 p.m.
