Area Baseball/Softball Teams Earn Post Season Berths
Nogales, Walnut each has both Baseball and Softball teams Make postseason. Diamond Ranch softball team also in.

As the spring sports season wind down, the Diamond Bar- Walnut Patch area schools are well represented in the upcoming postseason, led by Nogales and Walnut which has both its baseball and softball teams represented.
In what is supposed to be to be Coach Don Montanez’s final season as the skipper of the Nobles, Nogales said “not yet” as it rewarded him with another trip to the postseason after winning the Montview League posting a (20-7, 10-0 Montview) record. Nogales will open the Division 5 playoffs Friday as it awaits the Katella/Shadow Hills winner in Wednesdays wild card game. First pitch is at 3:15 pm.
The softball team also received a post season invitation after finishing second in the Montview League with a (15-12, 7-3 Montview) record. Nogales gave League champion Duarte its only league defeat. The Falcons, who only won one game last season got a crop of freshmen who helped led this season’s team to the Montview league title. Nogales hosts Faith Baptist in Thursday’s Division 6 first round opener. First pitch is at 3:30pm.

Further down La Puente Road, Walnut High school also had both its baseball and softball teams receive post season invitations.
Walnut’s softball team ended in a three-way tie with Los Altos and Diamond Bar for second place. Walnut and Los Altos won the coin toss and will be the second place representative in Division 5 and Division 3, respectively. Diamond Bar needed an at Large to enter, but unfortunately was not able to do so. The Mustangs (16-10, 6-4 Hacienda) hosts Cobalt Institute of Math and Science Academy in Thursday’s Division 5 first round opener. First pitch is at 3:15 pm.

The Mustang baseball team (20-5-1, also finished second in the Hacienda League, with its only league losses to eventual League winner South Hills. Walnut hosts El Rancho in Thursday’s Division 4 first round opener. First pitch is at 3:15 pm.
