Updated: Big Rig Crash on 60 Freeway Injures Eight, Stalls Traffic

A collision involving a big rig and three other vehicles on the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway in Diamond Bar today backed up traffic for miles and left eight people injured, including the trucker, who was trapped in the wreckage.

The big rig ended up off the freeway shoulder following the crash, which was reported shortly after 10 a.m. at Grand Avenue and left two people with major injuries.

One vehicle involved in the collision was a Caltrans van that was parked on the right shoulder, the California Highway Patrol reported.

County fire crews, including an Urban Search and Rescue Team, were sent to extricate the truck driver from the wreckage, a task that was accomplished in about 90 minutes. The trucker was airlifted to a hospital for treatment of "major" injuries, said county fire Inspector Keith Mora.

Another patient was transported by ground ambulance for treatment of major injuries, Mora said, while six others were transported for treatment of minor injuries.

The numbers 3, 4, 5, and 6 lanes were closed while crews worked to clear the roadway. Lane No. 3 is now open, according to the CHP. The cause of the crash was under investigation.
