Dixon Dolphins Swim Away With Victory in Motherlode Conference Championship
The Dolphins Swim Team was triumphant in the Northern California Swim League's Motherlode Conference Championship held in West Sacramento over the weekend.
It’s been a great season for the Dixon Dolphins Swim Team and over the weekend, the Dolphins once again proved their dominance in the water by taking first place in the Northern California Swim League’s Motherlode Conference Championship Swim Meet held at West Sacramento Recreation Facility.
The Dolphins faced off against four swim teams from West Sacramento, Fair Oaks, Amador and Galt in events including short freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and long freestyle said Dolphins’ Coach Greg Ngo. Dixon showed up with 140 swimmers, ages 4 to 18.
“The kids swam great, the kids all swam best times,” Coach Ngo said. “We came out of it Saturday in second place, 41 points behind … and Sunday morning we kind of rallied the troops and told the kids what needed to be done and pulled together and outswam them on Sunday.”

“We were in second, we swam all day and from what I heard, it was pretty close but we went into relays, which is the last event, but we nudged out West Sacramento by 34 points,” added Dolphins Board President Chad Ward.
“Our relay teams ended up swimming above their swimming spot,” Ngo said.

For the Dolphins, the weekend victory caps off a stellar season of swimming and camaraderie for a program that was in dire need of it Ward said.
“We got our butts handed to us, we got slaughtered last year,” Ward said. “Two of our coaches retired so we had Greg Ngo, he stepped up to be the head coach.”
Ward credits Ngo, and assistant coach Anthony Hurtado, with turning the team around this year.
“We had a little bit of turmoil with parents and the league really counted us out,” Ward said. “They said ‘They are past their prime.’ We as a board … we need to get these kids pointed in the right direction.”
With the full backing of the Dolphins board, Ngo and Hurtado built the team back up and were able to win the league’s Dual Championship.
“This year, the focus was on technique and speed,” Ngo said.
On the July 14, the Dolphins pulled away from a three-way tie for the Dual Championship by beating Amador in their home pool.
“I’m just estatic, I’m really happy for the swim team,” Coach Ngo said. “The kids worked really hard. The parents were amazingly involved in the program this year, it as a great family season, it all fell together all the families fell together. The parents went above and beyond.”
What’s next for the Dixon Dolphins?
“More of the same,” Coach Ngo said. “I want to see the kids learn new skils and get best times.”
