Dixon High Seeks Suggestions for Name of Stadium Field
The Dixon High School stadium field needs a name, suggestions sought
The stadium field at Dixon High School is a source of pride for the Dixon High Rams. It’s where the Rams conduct the business of beating opponents from Vacaville, Davis, Woodland and any other school that challenges.
But somehow, naming the Rams’ stadium after the school’s iconic mascot doesn’t quite cut it. Many people in Dixon say that the stadium should be named after someone who has made significant contributions to the town, perhaps someone from Dixon’s past such as the town’s founder Thomas Dickson, or perhaps after a historical site in Dixon.
Through the end of February, anyone who can come up with a name worthy of the field can submit their proposals to name it. Final approval of the stadium’s name falls in the hands of the Dixon Unified School District Board, but this is a way for the community to be a part of the process Dixon High School Principal Ivan Chaidez said.

The process for naming the field goes something like this. Name proposals are received until Feb. 28, 2011. The Dixon Unified School District Superintendent, Roger Halberg, then appoints a site-based naming committee consisting of five members to include one administrator, a staff member, one student at the secondary level, one parent and one community member.
The committee sifts through the proposals and then submits their recommendations to the school board. In turn, the school board then votes on the name for the stadium field. Chaidez the process should be done with by the end of the semester.
