A 39-year-old Fairfield man was killed this morning when his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado collided head-on with a tractor-trailer on state Highway 12 in San Joaquin County.
The Fairfield driver was heading west on Highway 12 east of the Mokelumne River Bridge around 7:45 a.m., CHP Officer Dan Sepulveda said.
The Chevrolet veered to the left for an unknown reason into the eastbound lane of Highway 12 and collided head-on with a 2007 International tractor-trailer driven east on Highway 12 by a 32-year-old Oakley resident, Sepulveda said.
Both vehicles were traveling at about 55 mph, Sepulveda said.
Witnesses said the Chevrolet was traveling in a straight line before veering
to the left, Sepulveda said.
The force of the collision pushed the Chevrolet back into the westbound lane. The Chevrolet driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The tractor-trailer's driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Lodi Memorial Hospital, Sepulveda said.
The Fairfield man's identity is being withheld until his family is notified, Sepulveda said.
