Solano County Designates Kaiser Vacaville Solano County's Trauma Center

Kaiser Permanente in Vacaville has been named Solano County’s Level II trauma center.

Northbay Healthcare in Fairfield, who was vying for the spot alongside the new Kaiser facility, posted their frustration with process on their Facebook page this morning, stating:

“There’s already too much politics in health care. Now, seven mayors in Solano think they should have a say, and they've chosen sides in a process to select the next Level II trauma center. But this decision isn't about politics. It should be based on the independent, objective evaluation of the trauma experts who examined NorthBay and Kaiser’s trauma programs. Their opinion, not a local politician’s, should count.”

They followed up around 10:30 a.m., conceding:

“The report this morning recommended Kaiser as the Level II trauma center for Solano County and the board accepted the recommendation. We are still proud of the work we have done at NorthBay and of our team. We will continue to deliver excellent care to all.”

Both facilities are currently Level III, with the highest being a Level I. The population in Solano County would only support one level II trauma center.

The Solano EMS Cooperative director told the Vallejo Times Herald, "A level II trauma center cares for the most seriously injured individuals, it's a service we haven't' offered in the county to this point and will certainly improve the transport times for those affected with severe injuries."
