Alameda County to Temporarily Close Most Courthouses to Reduce Costs

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA — All courthouses in Alameda County other than the Wiley W. Manuel courthouse in Oakland will be closed from Dec. 23 to Jan. 2, county officials said. The Superior Court of Alameda County started the fiscal year with a budget deficit of over $5 million. One cost-saving measure court officials have taken is offering unpaid vacation to staff during the holiday season.

The closed courthouses will offer no court services to the public. Certain cases will be heard at the Juvenile Justice Center in San Leandro, but the JJC will be closed to the public, county officials said

Limited staff will be on hand at the Wiley W. Manuel courthouse, located at 661 Washington St., from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 23 and from Dec. 27 to Dec. 30 to accept case filings, according to county
officials.

Drop boxes will be available at the Wiley W. Manuel courthouse for filings made after the clerk's office closes at 2:30 p.m. and before 4 p.m, county officials said.
