DUBLIN, CA — A correctional deputy was arrested today on suspicion of facilitating the assault of an inmate at Santa Rita Jail in October, according to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office. Detectives interviewed roughly 25 people including employees of the sheriff's office and inmates, some who were released after the Oct. 24 incident, in which the suspect allegedly allowed a small group of inmates to assault another inmate in a minimum-security area.

After an internal affairs investigation was launched, Deputy Joseph Bailey, a 28-year-old resident of Tracy, was placed on administrative leave. Detectives found probable cause to believe Bailey was complicit in the assault. They referred the case to the district attorney's office.

Bailey was arrested on suspicion of felony assault likely to cause great bodily injury and assault under color of authority, according to the sheriff's office. A spokeswoman for the Alameda County District Attorney's Office
