Dublin Preschool Investigated Following Toddler Death: Reports
The Building Kidz preschool is being investigated by the CA Department of Social Services after a 2-year-old was found dead last month.
DUBLIN, CA — A Dublin daycare is under state investigation after a toddler was found dead there in April, according to reports from Pleasanton Weekly and NBC Bay Area. The latest investigation is one of several made into the facility within the past year, according to reports.
A two-year-old boy was found unresponsive at the Building Kids School on April 15, according to Dublin Police Services.
"On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, about 2:33pm, Dublin Police Services patrol units responded to the Building Kidz School, located at 6351 Dublin Blvd, Dublin, for an unresponsive 2-year-old male child," DPS Captain Miguel Campos emailed Patch in a statement.

"Upon arrival, DPS patrol units performed CPR on the child. The child was subsequently transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 3:18pm. All members of the Building Kidz School were cooperative with the investigation. DPS’ investigation determined this tragic incident was not criminal in nature."
The Department of Social Services is investigating the incident, according to NBC Bay Area. DSS told NBC that an official was at the facility the day of the incident to investigate an unrelated complaint that the facility was operating without enough staff. DSS ultimately determined there was no proof of this allegation, according to investigation reports reviewed by NBC and Pleasanton Weekly.

The state has investigated six complaints at the facility since 2024. Four were found to be unsubstantiated, including allegations of understaffing, improper supervision, and unsafe conditions. In two cases, investigators substantiated the claims and issued citations: one for lack of supervision after a child was injured on the playground in June, and another in February for failing to notify parents of a different injury.
Patch attempted to reach out to Building Kids, but has not received a response. The facility told NBC that "The loss of a child is a tragedy and our hearts are broken. Building Kidz’ first priority is to support the grieving family and the wellbeing of our community, including parents, children, and our passionate teachers and caregivers."
They also told NBC that they are cooperating with all investigations, and have provided "comprehensive video footage" to authorities.
Building Kids said in response to a negative comment on its Yelp page that it closed the building the following day, and are "currently focused on supporting the immediate family and ask everyone to keep them and the passionate teachers and caregivers who dedicate their lives to the children daily in our thoughts."
The business manager also wrote that the school notified parents "every step of the way" since the incident have been in touch with families every day.
