Dublin's First Mayor To Be Celebrated At Public Memorial Service

Community members are invited to attend a public celebration of life for Pete Snyder, who became Dublin's first mayor in 1982.

DUBLIN, CA — Dublin neighbors will have a chance to pay their respects to the city's first mayor during a celebration of life planned next week.

According to the city, Pete Snyder's family organized the public remembrance event to remember the man who was instrumental in setting Dublin up for the future.

Snyder led efforts to incorporate as a city in 1980 and became its first mayor in 1982. He served 11 years as mayor, and 13 on the Dublin City Council. The city highlighted his central role in building the community, including helping bring BART service to the area and seeing through the development of the Dublin Civic Center.

Snyder died on Oct. 13, two months before his 90th birthday.

In an obituary published in Pleasanton Weekly, his family remembered Snyder as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, an active member of his church, and a lifetime public servant.

"Pete was widely admired for his integrity and character," the obituary reads in part.
"Pete lived an exceptional life, setting an inspiring example for all of us. We miss him dearly and will carry his memory in our hearts forever."

In lieu of flowers, the family asked community members to consider donating to the 100 Club of Alameda or Hospice of the Foothills.
