Dublin Superintendent Retiring
"This decision comes with deep gratitude for the countless people who have made this work so meaningful," Superintendent Chris Funk said.

DUBLIN, CA — DUSD Superintendent Chris Funk announced that he will retire in June 2026 after more than 30 years in public education.
Funk began at DUSD in June 2021, following a tempestuous period that saw four superintendents in just over two years. His tenure was marked by recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, the opening of Emerald High School, and significant budget challenges that saw proposed cuts of up to $6.3 million.
"In Dublin Unified, I’ve witnessed firsthand the power of a community committed to both excellence and equity. Together, we’ve opened new schools, expanded opportunities, strengthened Professional Learning Communities, and deepened our collective focus on belonging and student achievement. These accomplishments reflect not one individual’s effort, but the shared vision and dedication of a remarkable team of professionals and a supportive community," Funk said in a DUSD Weekly Update shared Friday with the community.

Funk is a native of San Jose who received his Master's in Social Science from San Jose State University, and began as a teacher in East Side Union High School and Buena High School. He then served five years as principal of Lincoln High School.

“I am grateful for Chris Funk’s leadership over the past five years as our superintendent," DUSD Board President Kristin Speck told Pleasanton Weekly. “He was a steady leader during our post-COVID recovery efforts and supported the district as the student growth leveled off after 10 years of dramatic growth.”
“It has been an honor to serve as your superintendent and to contribute to the future of this extraordinary district. As I look ahead to my final semester, my focus will remain on ensuring a smooth leadership transition and continuing the work of building an educational system where every student thrives,” Funk said in the community update.
