LIVERMORE, CA — Even though Tuesday was a busy day with the California primary election, it was a couple of sweet cats who won the night for California Highway Patrol Captain Chris Sherry.

“These kittens get my vote for cutest animals saved from the freeway today,” Sherry said on Twitter. “Thank you @CHPDublin officers! #ElectionDay #voting.”

The pair was rescued on I-580 eastbound near first street in Livermore. A CHP officer kept them safe it the saddle bag of their motorcycle.

"They are just relaxing waiting for a ride from one of our car cops (you know motors can’t transport) to the animal shelter," CHP said on Twitter.

Thanks to CHP and the person who called it in, the kittens are safe and sound.
