Korean Grocer H Mart Leases Space In Dublin: Reports

The popular grocery chain leased 37,180 square feet at the Dublin Retail Center, setting the stage for the Bay Area's fourth location.

DUBLIN, CA — Popular Korean grocery chain H Mart plans to open its fourth Bay Area location in Dublin, according to reports in Danville San Ramon, The Real Deal, and The San Francisco Business Times.

The New Jersey-based chain, first founded in New York City in 1982, is known for providing a vast array of Asian foods, many of which are not easily accessible in the United States. It expanded across the country, and currently boasts two locations in San Jose and one in San Francisco that is planning to expand by 27,000 square feet.

H Mart has signed a lease for a 37,180-square foot space at the Dublin Retail Center at 7884 Dublin Boulevard, according to the San Francisco Business Times.

Officials at the Dublin Chamber of Commerce first announced the possibility of an H Mart in Dublin in October 2021, according to Danville San Ramon. City spokesperson Shari Jackman told the outlet that the project is currently in a pre-approval phase. After a formal application is filed, it will go through three public Planning Commission hearings. No formal opening date is set for the Dublin location.

The store is a favorite among Asian foodies, and should do well in Dublin, where 51.6 percent of the population is Asian, according to the 2020 census. Still, it will face competition in the Bay Area: Seoul-based grocer Mega Mart opened its third U.S. store this month in Fremont, and Japanese dollar-store Daiso leased a 5,250-square-foot space in San Francisco’s Parkside Merced.
