DUBLIN, CA — Caltrans will close the right lane of southbound I-680 at various locations between Alcosta Boulevard in San Ramon and State Route 84 in Sunol for tree removal through late August.

Closures will take place each day between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., the agency said. The closures are necessary to provide space for workers to remove trees and vegetation in advance of construction of an express lane and pavement project.

Caltrans said it plans to build a new express lane on southbound I-680 from Alcosta Boulevard to San Ramon, and rehabilitate the pavement.

It is unclear whether Caltrans plans to include any more full-weekend closures, which occurred along the same stretch in the southbound lane June 9-11 and several times in the northbound lane.

A future landscape project currently in development will restore trees where feasible and address the loss of other vegetation resulting from the project, Caltrans said.
