Tri-Valley Native Shines As Cal Water Polo Tops No. 1 USC

BERKELEY, CA — Cal for a second straight week knocked off the nation's top-ranked water polo team, and former San Ramon Valley High School star Jack Deely played a big role.

The No. 5 Golden Bears on Saturday upset No. 1 USC 7-6 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opener for both teams.

The Golden Bears (15-2, 1-0 MPSF) on Sept. 25 defeated then-No. 1 UCLA 10-9 in an MPSF Invitational semifinal.

Deely, a Danville native, contributed two assists for Cal, which avenged a 12-11 loss to USC on Sept. 26. He leads the conference in points (70) and assists (35).

Junior goalie Adrian Weinberg had a career-high 20 saves and All-American Nikos Delagrammatikas had a hat trick against USC (11-1, 0-1).

Deely stands at 6'4" and weighs 200 pounds, and graduated from San Ramon Valley High in 2018, according to his Cal bio. There, he received an All-America First Team award in 2017 and was an All-America Second Team selection in 2016.

He was named a most valuable player by the East Bay Athletic League for leading the Wolves in scoring and helping his team to earn a league title.

Deeley is a senior and has not declared his major, according to his bio.
