Wild East Bay Chase Ends in Dublin With Arrest of Wanted Man

Concord police arrested a man Monday night after a high-speed chase that started on city streets, proceeded along three highways and ended up in Dublin. An officer tried to pull over a vehicle near the area of Grant Street and Olivera Road at about 10:30 p.m.

The officer recognized the driver, who had an outstanding felony warrant for vehicle theft, according to police. The suspect, a 40-year-old Pittsburg resident whose name was not immediately released, refused to stop and took off at high speeds onto nearby state Highway 242 and then Interstate Highway 680, police said.

He then led officers through several cities, reaching speeds of up to 100 mph before crashing on the connector ramp to Interstate Highway 580 in Dublin, police said.

The suspect tried to flee on foot and scale a highway sound wall before being apprehended with the help of a Concord police dog. The man was arrested on the outstanding warrant and suspicion of unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of methamphetamine for sale, evading a police officer, resisting arrest and felony probation violation, police said. He was treated at a hospital and then taken to the Martinez Detention Facility.
