A memorial service was held today for Los Angeles Police Department Officer George Nagata, who fell ill while on duty and died last week after being hospitalized with an apparent heart condition.
The service took place this morning at St. Basil Catholic Church in Koreatown.
Nagata, a 33-year veteran of the force who was last assigned to the Central Station, died on Saturday. He is survived by his domestic partner, Rosie; son, David; daughter, Kelly; sister, Loretta; and nine grandchildren, according to the LAPD.

The Los Angeles Police Federal Credit Union opened a blue ribbon trust fund account to assist his family.
