Help for Echo Park's DREAM-Eligible Youth
Two events Saturday will help young people who entered the U.S. illegally get temporary protections.
Young people who came to this country illegally can begin applying for temporary legal status on Wednesday.
Under President Obama's "Deferred Action Plan," those under 30 years of age who arrived to the U.S. illegally as infants or youngsters can get a two-year reprieve from deportation.
That's even if they do not have a high-school degree or G.E.D.

Two events happening Saturday in Echo Park with the logistics of applying for these protections.
They both kick off at 11 a.m. Saturday morning. One is hosted by Councilman Eric Garcetti at in Echo Park.

Pre-registered young people will receive free advice from an immigration attorney regarding the Deferred Action process.
Those interested inreceiving information about future events may call Garcetti’s District Office at 323-957-4500.
Just a few blocks away, will be the site of another workshop for DREAM-eligible young people.
The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles is sponsor and will advise on the Deferred Action process.
According to City News Service, Councilman Garcetti was invited to attend, but will be at Logan.
