Mother's Day: Local Design, Crafts Showcased
Two nearby events are great places to shop for--or with--Mom.
First off, there's UNIQUE LA, at the California Market Center on Ninth Street in Downtown Los Angeles.
"The largest independent design show in the country," the two-day extravaganza features 325 U.S.-based designers, DIY crafting workshops and art exhibits.

Founded by Echo Park resident Sonja Rasula, the event is an Etsy-crowd essential that's committed to American artisanship.
This show also features the much-blogged-about Caine's Arcade, a cardboard game paradise, and nine-year-old Caine himself, whose dad runs a car shop in East L.A.

Rasula's sister Hilda edited the video that is now going viral about the Arcade. (See that above.)
Rasula and her sister also program a monthly film series at the Echo.
UNIQUE LA is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and you can buy tickets at the door.
Closer to home, Mom might enjoy the Echo Park Craft Fair .
The event bills itself as "a dream boutique, showcasing some of the most edgy and arty folks in the West Coast."
You'll find textiles, footware, and jewelry in Angeleno Heights at 1461 Carroll Avenue, which seems edgy enough for us to make a stop.
The event kicked off Saturday and continues Mother's Day from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
