Silver Lake Neighborhood Council Supports Black Hogg Liquor License

Black Hogg restaurant opened quietly on just east of Parkman on Sunset Boulevard earlier this year.

Featuring "old world standards with new world touches" by Korean-American chef Eric Park, it was a hit from the start--and brought new life to an underperforming stretch of street.

About the time it opened restaurant began the process to obtain a permit to serve beer and wine at its 2852 West Sunset Boulevard space.

Wednesday night the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council gave General Manager Jonathan Kim and his partner Park some important help. The council voted to support the application with several caveats:

• The restaurant contract with 2860 Sunset Blvd. for 10 parking spaces
• Black Hogg present proof of a continuing contract annually
• Black Hogg provide 2-3 bike racks for cyclist customers
• Black Hogg keep nearby sidewalk, street and back area trash free
• The approval be tied specifically to Black Hogg management of space

Two council members voted against the endorsement, with another two abstaining.

Earlier in the meeting, discussion had centered on the high density of alcohol-serving establishments in Silver Lake.

But most commenting on the Black Hogg permit noted it would simply make it possible for customers already coming to Silver Lake to enjoy a drink with their meal.

The vote of support will be forwarded to the city planning department.
