14-Year Old Identified as Murder Victim in Richmond Shooting Monday

Fatally shot Richmond teen was identified today by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as 14-year-old Xavier McClanah.

RICHMOND: A teen who was fatally shot in Richmond on Monday morning was identified today by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as 14-year-old Xavier McClanahan.

McClanahan was reportedly found suffering multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso on the Richmond Greenway trail. Officers responded to the 3300 block of Ohio Avenue at 9:22 a.m. Monday when a shooting was picked up by the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system, Richmond police Lt. Andre Hill said. Medical responders attempted to stabilize McClanahan after he was discovered, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses reported seeing a male suspect running from the scene, which is near BART tracks and Lovonya DeJean Middle School.

Police were not immediately available this morning to provide an update on the search for the suspect.
