El Cerrito Police Blotter: 4 Residential Burglaries

El Cerrito Police are advising residents to be on the lookout for rental cars in their neighborhoods.

October 7 

Possession of a Controlled Substance - MacDonald Ave. at Mono Ave. 
Officers arrested a 19-year-old Richmond man for being in possession of methamphetamine during a traffic enforcement stop. The man was booked at the ECPD and then released. 

October 8 

Warrant Arrest - Central Ave. / Carlson Blvd. 
At 12:03 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle and arrested a male juvenile from Richmond for an outstanding warrant. The young man was also listed as a missing person. The officer transported the young man to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking and was later sent to juvenile hall in Martinez. 

Recovered Stolen Vehicle - Cypress Ave. / S. 56th St. 
At 3:37 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle and contacted the driver, a 33-year-old man from Richmond. The officer conducted an investigation and determined the vehicle had been stolen approximately 5 minutes before the officer stopped it. The vehicle was stolen from the 1300 block of Lawrence Ave. The officer transported the man to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking and later took him to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Drunk in Public - 10650 San Pablo Ave. 
Officers arrested a 42-year-old man from Mongolia for being too intoxicated to care for himself. The man was transported directly to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Warrant Arrest - San Pablo Ave. @ Potrero Ave. 
Officers arrested a 55-year-old Richmond man for an outstanding theft warrant during a suspicious person contact. The man was booked at the ECPD and then released with a citation. 

Burglary - 2500 Carquinez Ave. 
At approximately 2:45 p.m., an alert neighbor spotted three subjects near the front of their neighbor’s house. When the neighbor walked out to see what the subjects were doing, the three subjects fled from the neighbor’s house with stolen property. The subjects got into a newer model Mazda and fled towards Barrett Ave. The vehicle, in this incident, was a rented car. Be wary of rental cars in your neighborhood and keep an eye out for your neighbor’s houses! 

Petty Theft – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Ave. 
Store security arrested a 61-year-old Richmond man for stealing batteries and socks from the business. Officers booked the man at the police department and released him with a citation. 

Residential Burglary - 600 block of Albemarle Ave. 
At 10:28 p.m., an officer responded to a report of a residential burglary which occurred between 5:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.. The residents reported that an unknown suspect(s) entered the residence through an open bedroom window and stole electronics, watches and jewelry. 

October 9 

Stolen Vehicle – 8600 block of Thors Bay Rd. 
An unknown suspect stole the victim’s 2002 Ford Mustang between Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 9 at 6 a.m. The vehicle was located several houses away. 

October 10 

Residential Burglary – 7400 block of Rockway Ave. 
An unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence through an unlocked rear window and stole property. The burglary occurred sometime between Oct. 6 at 11 a.m. and Oct. 7 at 1 a.m. The crime was reported on Oct. 9. 

Possession of Heroin and Warrant Arrest - San Pablo Ave at Plumas Ave 
An officer made a traffic stop and arrested the driver, a 29-year-old San Pablo man, for possession of a syringe of heroin and a probation violation warrant. The officer took the man to county jail, after booking. 

Assault on a Police Officer, Terrorist Threats, Brandishing, and Resisting Arrest – Big 5 Sporting Goods, 11060 San Pablo Ave. and 6700 block of Glen Mawr Ave. Officers responded to a report of a man brandishing a shotgun at a motorist and threatening to kill him. Responding officers located a vehicle, involved in the incident, on Blake St. at Richmond St. While investigating the occupants, residents began calling about two suspicious men armed with a rifle on Glen Mawr Ave. More officers responded to Glen Mawr Ave. and located the suspicious subjects. When officers attempted to detain Kenneth Rayford, a 20-year-old Rancho Cordova man, he attacked a motorcycle officer. Officers handcuffed Rayford and his associate. Once he was secure, officers located the rifle that residents had seen him holding, hidden in a nearby bush. Officers arrested Rayford and his three associates. After further investigation, his associates were released. Officers booked Rayford at the El Cerrito Police Department and then transported him to county jail. 

Mental Health Evaluation - 5600 block of El Dorado St. 
At 9:19 p.m., an officer responded to a report of a woman acting strange and trying to enter a condemned residence. The officer contacted a 50-year-old transient woman who told the officer that she had not eaten in days. The woman was unable to tell the officer what year it was and she appeared unable to care for herself. The officer requested an ambulance and sent the woman to the Contra Costa County Regional Medical Center in Martinez for a mental health evaluation. 

Driving under the Influence - Cutting Blvd. / Kenilworth Ave. 
At 10:41 p.m., a sergeant conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle and contacted the driver, a 54-year-old man from Richmond. The sergeant arrested the man for suspicion of driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. An officer transported the man to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. The man was later issued a citation and released to a sober friend. 

Residential Burglary 7306 Rockway Ave (Beat 12) At 11:23 p.m. Ofc. Abetkov reports the victim’s returned home to find an unknown suspect had used a blue colored pry tool to open a locked kitchen window to gain access and steal an iPad and costume jewelry. The time frame for the burglary was between 0600 and 2000 hours today. This is the second burglary on Rockway Ave this week through a window (7405 Rockway was burglarized on Sunday or Monday). 

October 11 

Driving under the Influence- San Pablo Ave. / Carlson Blvd. 
At 1:58 a.m. an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle and contacted the driver, a 27-year-old man from Oakland. The man was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. The officer transported the man to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. The man was later issued a citation and released to a sober friend.
