El Cerrito Police Log: Drunken Driving, Home Burglaries, Stolen Bicycle Spotted

Some of the instances that kept El Cerrito police busy on a recent weekend

Here are some of the items from the El Cerrito Police Department logs from August 16 to August 19.

Friday, August 16

Vehicle burglary: A resident reported his 1990 Toyota Corolla was broken into overnight on the 1700 block of Lexington Boulevard. The burglar smashed a rear passenger window, popped the trunk and stole an iPad and iPod.

Stolen bicycle: A man told police he saw someone riding his stolen bicycle at 7:30 a.m. along the BART bike path south of Fairmont Avenue. The man said he confronted the rider and tried to call police, but the rider grabbed his cell phone and tossed it over a fence. The suspect then rode off through the El Cerrito Plaza shopping center.

House burglarized: A home in the 1300 block of Contra Costa Avenue was hit by a burglar who broke a rear window to enter. The only known loss was a piece of jewelry. The burglar may have been scared off by a home alarm.

Saturday, August 17

Trailer stolen: A thief cut the tongue lock on an 18-foot black Carson Dovetail trailer and stole it from the parking at 11858 San Pablo Ave.

Drunken driving: An officer stopped a vehicle at 12:14 a.m. at Moeser Lane and Richmond Street. The driver, a 26-year-old man from Oakland, was arrested for driving under the influence.

Sunday, August 18

Drunk in public: An officer stopped a pedestrian at 6:50 p.m. at 10650 San Pablo Ave. The officer determined the 46-year-old man was too intoxicated to take care of himself and took him to Contra Costa County Jail in Martinez.

Substance arrest: At 6:17 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Safeway on San Pablo Avenue for a report of a shoplifter. They detained a 47-year-old woman and searched her belongings. Officers found a glass smoking pipe, a small case containing a controlled substance and pepper spray.

Home burglary: A house on the 1000 block of Villa Nueva was burglarized by someone who entered through an unlocked rear window. The total loss in the theft is estimated at $1,000.

Monday, August 19

Drug arrest: Officers stopped a vehicle at San Pablo Avenue and Potrero Avenue. Inside, they found two ounces of liquid suspected to be THC and five grams of suspected Psilocybin mushrooms. Two Oakland men were arrested for possession of the items.

DUI arrest: Officers arrested a 46-year-old Texas man at 12:46 a.m. at Carlson Boulevard and Santa Cruz Avenue for driving under the influence. The man was booked, cited and released.
