EL CERRITO POLICE: Spate of Auto Burglaries; Man Arrested for Trespassing at Safeway

Police activity between May 24-27 as reported by the El Cerrito Police.

Friday, May 24

Theft from Auto – San Pablo Ave. at Knott Ave.
On Thursday, May 23 between 1630 and 1930 hours, an unknown suspect cut the catalytic converter to the victims Toyota Sequoia.

Residential Burglary – 800 block of Elm St.
Between 1200 to 1515 hours, an unknown suspect entered a residence via an open rear bedroom window and stole several laptops from the residence.

Auto Burglary – 8000 El Cerrito Plaza
An unknown suspect broke a rear passenger window to the victim vehicle and removed a backpack, sometime between 1800 and 1810 hours.

Auto Burglary – 8000 El Cerrito Plaza
An unknown suspect broke the driver side window of the victim vehicle and removed a backpack, sometime between 1800 and 1810 hours.

Auto Burglary – 6060 Central Ave
An unknown suspect broke the driver side window and removed a backpack sometime between 1815 hours and 1820 hours. The backpack was located in the El Cerrito Plaza while police investigated the other burglaries.

Auto Burglary – 6060 Central Ave
An unknown suspect broke the rear passenger window and removed a piece of luggage from the vehicle, at 1740 hours. The piece of luggage was located in the El Cerrito Plaza while police investigated the other burglaries.

Theft from auto – 2600 block of Arlington Blvd
An unknown suspect entered the victim’s vehicle through an unlocked door and removed a garage door opener, sometime between 5/23/13 at 1930 hours and 5/24/13 at 0830 hours.

Residential Burglary – 700 block of Pomona Ave
An unknown suspect entered the listed residence through an open bedroom window and stole property sometime between 5/24/13 at 0800 and 5/25/13 at 0015 hours.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – San Pablo Ave/ Carlson Blvd
Officers arrested a 55 year-old El Sobrante woman after they found her driving a stolen Infiniti. The woman was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Saturday, May 25

Possession of a Controlled Substance/Burglary Tools
and a Warrant arrest – San Pablo Ave. at Orchard Ave.

At 1224 hours, a witness called dispatch and reported suspicious activity on San Pablo Ave. at Orchard Ave. The witness saw two subjects conducting a “hand-to-hand” drug transaction. Officers detained two subjects and two vehicles in the area. Officers arrested a 42-year-old woman from Richmond for possession of methamphetamine and a 23-year-old woman from Richmond for two arrest warrants. Officers booked the women at the El Cerrito Police Department. They released the first woman, pending laboratory testing of the suspected methamphetamine. They took the second woman to county jail for her warrants.

Trespassing/Drunk in Public/Petty Theft –
Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Ave.

At 1730 hours, officers responded to Safeway for an unwanted person inside the business. Officers arrested a 51-year-old man from Richmond after they learned he was intoxicated and ate food without paying. Earlier in the week, officers contacted the man, at the request of the store management, and gave him an order not to return to the business. Officers also charged the man with trespassing because management banned him from the business. Officers took the man to county jail.

Residential Burglary – 600 block of Albemarle Ave.
An unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence through an unlocked basement door and stole property sometime between 1650 and 2150 hours.

Warrant Arrest – Carlson Blvd. / Santa Clara Ave.
Officers conducted a bicycle enforcement stop and arrested a 44-year-old Richmond man for an probation violation warrant. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

DUI, Evading police – San Pablo Ave. / Cutting Blvd.
Officers located a vehicle traveling southbound on San Pablo Ave. without a front right tire. When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to yield and instead continued driving for another ½ mile to his home. Officers arrested the driver, a 43-year-old El Cerrito man, for driving under the influence of alcohol and evading police. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released.

DUI, Driving with a Suspended License – San Pablo Ave. / Moeser Ln.
Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 28 year-old San Pablo man, for driving under the influence of alcohol. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released.

Sunday, May 26

Spousal Battery
At 1003 hours, officers responded to a verbal argument between two families. A 22-year-old El Cerrito man punched his girlfriend in the face several times during an argument. Officers arrested the man, booked him, and took him to the county jail.

Petty theft with Prior Theft Conviction – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Ave.
At 1120 hours, officers arrested a 42-year-old woman from San Francisco after she stole more than $200 worth of Safeway items. The female was previously convicted of theft, making the present crime much more serious. The female was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Petty Theft – Safeway 11450 San Pablo Ave
At 1652 hours, officers accepted the citizen arrest of a 46-year-old male from Oakland after he was caught stealing items from Safeway. The male was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.

Prowling – 1100 block of Arlington Blvd.
An unknown suspect walked up to the front porch of the victim’s residence and shook the handle of the front door. When the victim was alerted, the suspect fled. The suspect is described as a white male juvenile, approximately 14 years old, 5’6”, 130, black jeans (rolled up), white t-shirt, blue shoes.

Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave. / Macdonald Ave.
Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and subsequently arrested a passenger, a 50-year-old Richmond man, for an outstanding warrant. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Monday, May 27

Drunk in Public – Starbucks, 11861 San Pablo Ave.
At 0832 hours, officers responded to a report of an aggressive panhandler. Officers arrested a 53-year-old male from Vallejo, after they found him highly intoxicated. They transported the man to the county jail.

Elder Abuse, Battery
Officers arrested a 49-year-old El Cerrito man after he choked his elderly mother during an argument. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
