El Cerrito Seeking First Poet Laureate
The laureate's duties will include performing a minimum of two readings and developing three community events each year.

EL CERRITO, CA- The City of El Cerrito is seeking a local poet to serve as the city’s first Poet Laureate.
Officials announced Friday that a Request for Proposals (RFP) is available on the City’s website and are due by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2016.
The Arts & Culture Commission established the Poet Laureate Program and will select one resident to serve a two-year term as the City’s poet laureate.

The laureate’s duties will include to perform at least two readings and develop three community events each year and s/he will receive an honorarium.
The program is funded by the City’s Art in Public Places Program, which requires new building projects with development costs of $250,000 to devote 1% of the development costs towards public art.

Eligibility requirements include:
- Must be a resident or work full time in El Cerrito
- Must be 21 years old
- Demonstrate a commitment to poetry writing, spoken word performance, and community involvement and outreach
