EL CERRITO, CA- The City of El Cerrito is seeking a local poet to serve as the city's first Poet Laureate.Officials announced Friday that a Request for Proposals (RFP) is available on the City's <a href="http://www.el-cerrito.org/poets" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">website</a> and are due by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2016.The Arts &amp; Culture Commission established the Poet Laureate Program and will select one resident to serve a two-year term as the City's poet laureate.The laureate's duties will include to perform at least two readings and develop three community events each year and s/he will receive an honorarium.The program is funded by the City's Art in Public Places Program, which requires new building projects with development costs of $250,000 to devote 1% of the development costs towards public art.Eligibility requirements include:<ul><li>Must be a resident or work full time in El Cerrito</li><li>Must be 21 years old</li><li>Demonstrate a commitment to poetry writing, spoken word performance, and community involvement and outreach</li></ul>Announcement by the City of El CerritoPhoto via Patch archive
