Teachers' Union Election Rally on San Pablo

The teachers union for West Contra Costa Schools, United Teachers of Richmond, held a rally on San Pablo Avenue in El Cerrito this past week for measures and candidates it supports. State Senator Loni Hancock spoke briefly in support.

About 50 members of the United Teachers of Richmond – the union representing teachers in West Contra Costa County – staged an election rally in El Cerrito this past week.

Carrying signs in support of measures and candidates the union has endorsed, union members gathered at 4 p.m. Monday at Cutting Boulevard and San Pablo Avenue.

State Senator Loni Hancock spoke briefly in support. She wore a "No on 32" sticker. Critics say state Proposition 32, a measure on the November 6 ballot that pledges to eliminate or at least sharply reduce the influence of special interests in politics, call it a disguised attempt by corporate conservative interests to stop political contributions from unions while creating loopholes that would allow corporate donations to continue.
