The Week Ahead: Library, Cell Phone Towers, Senior Housing

Some of the events coming up this week in El Cerrito and Kensington

On Monday evening, Contra Costa County Library officials will hold a town hall meeting to discuss the El Cerrito library.

The gathering is part of a series of public meetings by library representatives to get input on how to make libraries more valuable to the community.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at El Cerrito City Hall, 10890 San Pablo Ave.

On Tuesday evening, the Contra Costa County Planning Commission will consider six cell phone receiver site proposals in the Kensington area.

AT&T is requesting permission to build the facilities. The locations of the proposed receivers are listed on the commission's agenda. Four of the receivers would be installed on existing utility poles while two would consist of new poles.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the county planning offices, 30 Muir Road in Martinez.

On Wednesday evening, Eden Senior Housing officials will host a community meeting to discuss plans for 63 units of affordable senior housing on land next to El Cerrito City Hall.

The group is also seeking input on how on ways to honor the history of the Contra Costa Florist building on the site.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Also on Wednesday evening, the West Contra Costa Unified School District board of trustees will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Lovonya DeJean Middle School, 3400 Macdonald Ave.

On the agenda is a recommendation to formally reject a petition to form a charter school in El Cerrito. The board will also approve contracts and hear a report on the district's recently released high school exit exam scores. 

The Off The Grill food trucks will have their weekly Wednesday gathering on Fairmont Avenue between San Pablo and Carlson.

On Thursday evening, directors of the Kensington Police Protection and Community Services District will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center, 59 Arlington Ave.

On the agenda is a report on plans for a community survey to determine public support for a future bond measure to renovate the Community Center.

The El Cerrito Plaza Farmers Market is open on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
