EGPD Will Offer Free Catalytic Converter Etching to Deter Thieves

The event will be held on June 4.

Elk Grove residents concerned about catalytic converter thefts will soon be able to take a free preventative measure.

The Elk Grove Police Department and Jiffy Lube will etch license plate numbers onto catalytic converters for free on June 4.

Here's what the police department has to say about the event:

The Elk Grove Police Department is partnering with Jiffy Lube to host a FREE catalytic converter etching event.  The event will take place on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Jiffy Lube (9611 Auto Center Drive in Elk Grove).
During the "Etch and Catch" event, your vehicle's license plate number will be etched onto your catalytic converter(s).  The etching may deter thieves from stealing your converter.  The presence of license plate numbers on catalytic converters can also provide law enforcement with the information needed to identify stolen property, contact victims, and apprehend criminals.  This free "Etch and Catch"  event is open to residents of all cities.
