Elk Grove High Schools Ranked Below Average in College Readiness

Elk Grove and Pleasant Grove are listed among the top 500 high schools in California, according to US News and World Report.

Fewer than 20 percent of seniors at Elk Grove and Pleasant Grove high schools are ready for college, based on AP test scores, according to a report released Tuesday.

Elk Grove High ranked No. 426 among the Best High Schools in California for 2012, as announced Tuesday by US News and World Report magazine. Pleasant Grove placed 479th. Other schools in the Elk Grove Unified School District were not ranked.

A three-step process determines the news magazine's Best High Schools ranking. The first two steps ensured that the schools serve all of their students well, using performance on state proficiency tests as the benchmarks. For those schools that made it past the first two steps, a third step assessed the degree to which schools prepare students for college-level work.
