Friends to Hold Vigil for Injured Teen

Thomas Mutz, 14, was hit by an SUV while biking near Cosumnes Oaks High School.

Friends and family of Thomas Mutz will hold a candlelight vigil for him Wednesday night. The 14-year-old Cosumnes Oaks High School freshman is fighting for his life after as he was biking near school last week.

Family friend Mimi Deville said Mutz remains in critical condition, and asked for the community's prayers and support to help him pull through.

"We really need a miracle right now," said Deville.

The vigil will take place at 7:00 p.m. under the oak tree in front of . Attendees are encouraged to wear green, Mutz's favorite color, and candles will be provided.

Police are still investigating how a black Lincoln Navigator came to knock Mutz off his bike, then run him over, while making a turn from Civic Center Drive onto Laguna Springs Drive. Elk Grove Police Department spokesperson Christopher Trim said last week that the driver, whom police have interviewed, did not appear to be under the influence at the time of the accident.
