One of the co-owners of the Running Zone, an Elk Grove athletic-shoe store, explains how their shoe selection process works.
Last year, 5K and half-marathon.
Many runners preparing for this year's eventβscheduled for April 7βwill likely stop by the Running Zone, an athletic shoe store on Elk Grove Boulevard near the Automall.Β
Mimi Veiga, one of the shop's co-owners since 2008, said it's beneficial for runners to have a professional assist them with picking out a pair of shoes.

Veiga said the correct shoes are helpful even if a runner is just starting out.
"A running shoe should support your foot whether you're running a mile, a 5K or a half-marathon," she said.
And don't forget about socks. Veiga said cotton socks can hold in moisture and creature blisters.
