How Will You Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday?
Monday's federal holiday honors the fallen civil rights leader. How will you spend it?

Elk Grove residents will enjoy a day off from work and school Monday as the country marks the birthday of the most famous civil rights leader in United States history, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Some will seize the chance for a much-needed three-day weekend--hitting the slopes, maybe?--while others will take the opportunity to reflect on the man who brought us his dream of an egalitarian society, and the work that remains to be done to achieve that vision.
It wasn't always this way. Activists had to fight hard for the holiday to be adopted 25 years ago, and it's faced periodic challenges from those who feel uncomfortable about a day set aside in honor of racial justice and equality.
