Jogger Dies After Being Hit By SUV

A jogger who was hit by an sport utility vehicle while crossing Laguna Blvd Monday morning died in the hospital Tuesday, the Elk Grove Police Department reported today.

Elk Grove resident Teresa Hess, 53, was in a marked crosswalk at the corner of Laguna Park Drive when she was struck by a Ford Explorer driven by a 32-year-old man, also from Elk Grove.

Police say their preliminary investigation shows that the driver, who had a seven-year-old girl with him in the car, ran a red light before hitting Hess. The light had already been red for several seconds by the time Hess was hit, according to a department press release.
