Kayakers Find Body in Tree Along Cosumnes River

Kayakers found a man's body hanging from a tree near the Cosumnes River Sunday, and the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department is investigating what deputies believe was probably a suicide.

The body was located about a mile east of the Cosumnes River Preserve Nature Center and had its hands tied behind its back, spokesperson Deputy Jason Ramos said by email.

Officers used a helicopter and two boats to search the heavily wooded area, which lies just south of Elk Grove city limits, after the kayakers called in the report around 5:00 p.m.

Ramos said officers were still working to take down the body late Sunday and had not yet made a definitive determination as to the cause of death.
